Route 66 – The Beginning

The start of Route 66

I don’t particularly like driving. I just do it to get from A to B.

Mr. C, on the other hand, enjoys it! So whenever we go visiting Daughter No. 1 up at the opposite end of the country in Aberdeen, he’s more than happy to drive the entire journey himself. Mad, I know.

Ok so I suppose you’re wondering where I’m going with this?

Well since I’ve known Mr. C, he’s hankered after driving Route 66. So when we sold our website and decided to go travelling (instead of doing the sensible thing and paying a chunk off our mortgage)  his dream suddenly seemed attainable.  I naturally assumed that I’d be doing my fair share of the driving as obviously the whole of Route 66 is considerably longer than the road from Cardiff to Aberdeen. I definitely wasn’t relishing the idea of driving on the wrong side of the road in a country where it seems very few people stick to the speed limit. Plus our Sat Nav won’t give us directions using Route 66 is as it always wants to take us ‘The fastest route’. Nonetheless I was prepared to do my bit. But no, it turns out that Mr. C actually wants to drive the whole thing himself.  Win Win for both of us then……

First of all we had to get out of Chicago not using the obvious roads though. We found the sign proclaiming the Start of the Historic Route 66 and with my right arm out of the window taking a pic of the famous sign and Mr. C with a big grin on his face, we embarked on our latest adventure.

A few hundred metres down that first long and original road I turned and looked behind for one last look at the incredible Chicago skyline and wondered if it could get any better… Ask me again when  we get to LA on October 11.

Mrs C
In a nutshell, I'm a Mum to three gorgeous daughters and two step-sons who are gradually making their own lives and leaving Mr. C and I plenty of time to enjoy life just as a couple again. I'm a big fan of Afternoon Tea & Corrie and hate, with a vengeance, violence in films! I love reading 'proper' books though I concede that my birthday Kindle was brilliant on holidays.
